Data Scientist

Star Stable is growing rapidly and now in need of a Data Scientist to be a part of the Business Intelligence team! Join the fastest growing online gaming company in Sweden and be part of a brilliant, fun and dynamic international team.

The BI team at Star Stable is responsible for delivering actionable insights and information to a rapidly growing and changing business.  We are constantly developing new and creative ways to measure different situations and communicate these directly to the organisation on live dashboards throughout the office, interactive applications and periodic reports for management and stakeholders.  We combine data from many different sources into a central DWH for analysis and reporting purposes and use Qliksense as a front end to convey the insights.

We are a growing team and need a data scientist/analyst to assist in developing better insight into key areas of the organisation for both in-game and marketing/acquisition channels.  A candidate with a broad range of complementary skills such as technical and business acumen will be a merit.

We picture the candidate as a trained scientist with a published track record. A person that is capable to design experiments and knows how to analyze data avoiding biases. A dedicated team player that knows how to talk to people with diverse backgrounds and can clearly communicate her/his findings omitting scientific jargon.

You will be part of BI team working closely with other teams delivering answers and insights about players behavior, game economy and such.  A substantial part of your workflow will be answering ad hoc questions asked by other teams or company members, therefore it is essential that you can easily multitask and prioritize your workflow. Since you will be mainly working with pure data from the game it is important that you understand data limitations and consequences of data limitations.

You can expect larger scale projects lasting several weeks, as well as short-term ad-hoc requests as part of regular team workflow.

The most important is that you can think critically to deliver as accurate as possible solutions or assessment of given problems since the future of the company will be decided based on your recommendations.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Use statistical modelling to identify underlying trends related to areas such as analysis of churn points in-game and predicting churn probability for a player based on behaviour; persona segmentation of players based on in-game behaviour; A/B testing and analysis of different scenarios related to pricing, campaigns etc.
  • Researching, developing and communicating new KPIs to better monitor and understand our changing business for the areas of focus.
  • Providing ad-hoc analysis and reports for stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Assisting in designing the data warehouse infrastructure, working with tech teams to integrate new data flows and optimising the data structure so it can be used efficiently.

Required qualifications/competencies:

  • Have a degree in a quantitative discipline such as like physics, mathematics, computational chemistry, statistics etc.
  • Experience in experiment design and results analysis
  • At least 3 years’ experience working in a BI or Analytics team.  Experience in gaming is a merit, especially other MMOs.
  • Experience in R, Python, SQL or other statistical modelling tools.
  • Working knowledge of complex data analysis including but not limited to machine learning, time series analysis, clustering, segmentation, Fourier transform, statistical analysis or group theory.
  • Experience with Qliksense considered a merit.
  • Be a great communicator, able to talk with developers about technical solutions, discuss KPIs with marketing, and present to management when required.
  • Be proactive, can take responsibility and able to drive initiatives by themselves.
  • Have a passion for games and the gaming business.

The most important thing is a great attitude, if you believe that you would be the best fit for the role then we’d love to hear from you!
